Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Engineering!!
Biomedical Engineering combines biology and medicine with engineering to advance healthcare through the creation of innovative devices and procedures. Biomedical engineers collaborate with scientists, other engineers, and practicing physicians on projects such as orthopedic implants, artificial organs, cardiovascular prostheses, and improved medical imaging techniques.
The Biomedical Engineering undergraduate degree program at The University of Memphis was recently approved by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. We offer the only biomedical engineering degree within 200 miles. Students are welcome and may now apply or transfer to the undergraduate degree program in the Biomedical Engineering department in the Herff College of Engineering.
Our graduate program is a collaboration of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the University of Memphis, and their partnering entities. We offer three kinds of graduate degrees in biomedical engineering: the M.S. degree based on a research project; the M.S. degree based on a research thesis; and the Ph.D. degree based on a doctoral dissertation.
